What?!?

Me: "Layla, pick up your toys, please."
Layla: "What?!?"
Me: "I said, pick up your toys, please."
Layla: "What?!?"
Me: "Oh my gosh, Layla, pick up your toys!"
Layla: "Oh! I can't."

This new word makes trying to communicate with a 2 year old very, very difficult.

New hiding spot.

Finding Layla today was tough! LOL

Little book worm.

Layla and I were in her room for over 2 hours today just reading in bed. She loves reading and if she had it her way, that is all we would do all day long. She has already memorized almost all of her books: Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see?, One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish, Go, dogs, go, 10 apples up on top, and Fancy Nancy just to name a few (she literally has about 50 books). Hopefully she will continue to love reading.

Teddy bear snack.

Layla: "I want a snack!"
Me: "No, Layla, you just had a snack. You have to wait until dinner."
Layla with her bottom lip pouting: "Please, Mama."
Me: "No, Layla."
Layla: "But I want a teddy bear snack!"
Me: "No, Layla, no more food until dinner."
Layla now with tears running down her face: "Please, Mama. I want a teddy bear snack."

It is so hard to say no to her when she is so cute and says please like a good girl.

Excuse me!

Layla has really good manners. She always says please, thank you and you're welcome. She even says excuse me if someone is in her way. She has a really bad habit (cough, cough, thanks to her Daddy, cough, cough) of saying "I FARTED" really, really loud when she farts. I told Ed and her both that when they do that, they have to say excuse me from now on. So BOTH of them think it is a joke! Ed has taught Layla to say "Excuse me, I faaaaaaaaarted" like he's singing it. So, today we were in the PX and Layla made a sound with her mouth and as loud as she could, she said "Excuse me, I faaaaaarted!" Oh my gosh, it was so embaressing. Daddy is going to get a big punch from me next time I see him for that one!

My model!

Today Layla wanted to do her hair and makeup, so that is what we did. I curled her hair and then put red lipstick and some eye shadow on her. She loved it and then started posing and modeling around the house.

Cooking dinner.

Whenever I am cooking, Layla always has to be up on the counter with me. She goes through the canned food and takes it all out and then tells me "I'm cooking dinner for Silky!" Tonight she was cooking for Silky and Baby so she made an extra large meal.

Backpack full of junk.

Layla has a princess backpack that she carries with her around the house, you should see the junk inside of it. It includes a bottle of glue, handful of buttons, an old battery, a stuffed dog, crayons, a stamp, 2 old birthday cards, a princess doll, 2 tubes for Ed's RC car, little pieces of paper, more buttons, a paperclip, a toy horse, pieces of plastic from Ed's RC car, rubberbands, zip ties, extra parts from Ed's RC car, and even more buttons. She wanted me to play with her stuff today, but how can I play with trash? LOL

A little Halloween preview!

We got Layla's costume in the mail today and of course had to try it on. It is to die for, she looks absolutely adorable in it. I can't wait until Halloween!

Happy birthday, Ed!

Today is Ed's birthday and we were able to go eat dinner with him in the dining facility at WLC. We were outside waiting for him to come for about 45 minutes and I am so not into all the Army stuff (marching, cadences, PT, etc.) so I was getting a bit irritated. So was Layla, she would not let me put her down. Finally his company (Bravo) came up and I had to give his SGL his number (#278) and finally he came and met us. I was so over being there but we were able to be with him for about a 1/2 an hour, and that was nice. Layla was very excited to see him too and was talking up a storm telling him all about what we've been doing for the last week. It broke my heart when we had to go because she kept saying "I want to see Daddy more!" over and over. Then when I put her to bed she had a really rough time going to sleep, I think seeing Ed made it harder on her, poor baby. But anyway, we had a good dinner with him and he was happy to be able to see us on his birthday. 3 more weeks and he'll be home, I'm sure it'll go by fast!

Talkative morning!

Layla always calls for me in the mornings and I go get her out of bed, well not today. I hear her getting out of bed by herself and see her in the mirror wandering into my bedroom. She comes in and says "Hi, Mom!" And then I ask her what she's doing and she tells me "I wake up. Daddy come home today!" And I have to tell her that no, Daddy is not coming home today. We get to go eat dinner with Daddy but he won't come home for a few more weeks. So she says okay and then opens her little hand and has a princess clip on earring in it. She tells me "Earring broken. Fix it!" So I fixed the part I could, the entire back of it is missing (it's one of those cheap plastic ones) and I hand it back to her. She looks at me all confused because it's still broken (which I had to explain to her) and then she says "It's broken. We'll go buy more today!" LOL
Update: I bought her some new ones! She knows me too well! :)

Panties!

Tonight I decided to take a shower with Layla and she got out before I did. I put a towel around her and told her to go pick out some panties and PJ's and as soon as I got out I would put them on for her. Well, she decided to put on panties by herself.

Layla's Halloween costume!

Layla is going to be Dorothy for Halloween this year and I am in love with her costume. I cannot wait to get it in the mail so I can try it on her.

A couple of cute Layla things.

Whenever Layla sees a picture of herself on the computer she goes "I want to see Layla" and then when I show her she always yells at me "LOOK AT LAYLA! LOOK AT LAYLA!" She is so silly.

Today she was in her room singing to her new Hannah Montana DVD (the concert one) and instead of using her Hannah Montana microphone she was singing into her toy gun. When I went in her room to spy on her she didn't she me at first and was really into her singing and dancing. When she finally spotted me, she flipped the gun around and pointed it at me and said "BOOM! I shoot you!"

A nice friday.

Since Ed is gone I wanted to try to find some fun stuff for Layla and I to do, at least on the weekends. Well this morning we went to feed the ducks. This is one of Layla's favorite things to do, she loves it. She is a little bit nervous when they all come up to her though because last time one of the ducks bit her hand. So now she always tries to kick the ducks and says "GO AWAY!" if they get too close to her. After our loaf of bread is gone she always plays at the playground they have there and never wants to leave.
So after saying goodbye to the ducks a million times we went to the PX to get a movie and some other fun stuff to do at home. We ended up with the Jungle Book, bubbles, Spongebob capsules, water balloons and paint. When we got home I put in the Jungle Book for her and said that this was Grandpa and I's movie and that we always used to watch it together when Mommy was a little girl. She asked me "Grandpa come watch it with me?" and I said no, he's too far away so she tells me "come on Grandpa!"

New bath toys!

Layla and I went to go check the mail today and we were excited to get a package from Grandma and Grandpa. My parents just went to Hawaii so it had all kinds of presents in there from Hawaii, mostly for Layla. Well, there was a Little Mermaid water pail and a shovel in the package and as soon as Layla saw them she started ripping her clothes off and wanting to go play in the bath tub with them. She was in the bath tub playing for over an hour. Thanks for the new toys Grandma and Grandpa! :)
Oh, and when she got out of the bath tub she told me "I want pick out clothes" so I let her. She pointed to a pink dress with skulls all over it and said "I want to wear the ugly guy dress!" LOL! She calls all skulls and things of that nature "ugly guys!"

The nudist!

Layla is my little naked girl. Every morning after she wakes up and goes potty she takes off her pants and panties and runs around bottomless for about a half an hour. After that half an hour is up she freaks out if she can't take off her shirt. During this whole period in the morning she is fussy, by the way. As soon as she comes over to me and I take off her shirt, which leaves her completely naked, she gets a big smile on her face, throws her arms in the air and runs to the other room laughing. After this, she is in a good mood the rest of the day. So why do I spend hundreds upon hundreds of dollars on clothes for her? I should just let her walk around the PX naked, if that'll make her happy!

Bubble fun!

I have been hiding two bottles of bubbles from Layla for the longest time and she finally found them so we decided to go outside and use them. She looooves blowing bubbles and had so much fun. It's amazing how fast those suckers go when you have a 2 year old!

Turkey sammy!

Every day now I ask Layla what she would like to eat for lunch and I always get the same answer "uhhhh... turkey sammy!?" Well today she was hanging on the refrigerator door and telling me that she wanted to get the turkey out. So I open the door and she sticks her whole head/body inside and says "Oh turkey, where are you? I can't hear you!" That made me laugh, I don't know where she comes up with this stuff.

Bedtime.

Every time Layla gets something new, she has to either wear it or take it to bed with her. She doesn't want to part with it since it is so new.
New bike.
New bathing suit.
New tutu.

Okay, go for it!

This is Layla's new phrase.

Me: "Can I do your hair?"
Layla: "Okay, go for it!"

Me: "Layla, can I clean your room?"
Layla: Okay, go for it!"

Pretty much any question I ask her she tells me to "go for it"! But the best part is, before she says that she puts her little finger on her lips like she's thinking about it and says "hmmmm" and will then say "okay, go for it." She is so funny! My favorite one though is when I am getting ready to vacuum.

Me: "Layla I am going to vacuum now."
She takes off and runs to her bedroom because she hates loud noises.
Layla yelling from the other room: "OKAY, GO FOR IT!"

Hellooooooooo.

Right next to our computer desk we have a door leading to the hall. I was on the computer today because I was bored and Layla kept coming back and forth from her room. She decided to close the door and a couple minutes later I hear a knock from the other side of it. She knows how to open it so I waited and then she yelled at me "Helloooooooo! Mom! Open the door!" So I get up and go open it and she comes out with a big sigh because I took so long. I told her I was very sorry for keeping the princess waiting.

Happy day!

Ed leaves to WLC for a month on Tuesday so we decided to celebrate his birthday today since he'll be gone for it. All day long Layla has been running around saying "HAPPY DAY, DAD!" We had a great day, went bowling, ate out and then went to the PX. While we were at the PX Layla and I found a couple of things to get Ed and we hid them in the back of the cart (which Ed totally knew about but for Layla's sake we pretended he had no idea). Then when we got home Layla helped me make Ed a cake and helped decorate it too. She had a blast, especially eating all the icing! We made a great dinner tonight, our surf and turf (fillets with shrimp), then we sang happy birthday (or in Layla's words, happy day) and ate some cake. We had a really fun day today and Ed's 24th birthday was a hit!

Too noisy!

Layla hates loud noises, she always says "NOISY!" and then runs away from whatever it is making the loud noise (usually the vacuum or blow dryer). Today she was on the bed in our bedroom and I had to blow dry my hair. She saw me take out the dryer and gets this scared look on her face.
Layla: "Too noisy, Mama, put back."
Me: "No, Layla, I'll be real quick."
I plug in the dryer.
Layla: "Mom, what did I tell you? TOO NOISY! PUT BACK!"
She is becoming a bossy little thing!

A day in Wieden.

Today Layla, Shell, Evan and I went to Wieden to do a bit of shopping and I was so disappointed at what they had there. Compared to Mainz and Wiesbaden it was a joke! However, after some shopping we went to the park and played and then we went and saw the birds which Layla loved. So other than the shopping being horrible we ended up having a really great time. It was a beautiful day outside and it was nice just to walk around and relax. We'll definitely be going back.

What happens when Ed takes a nap!

He is going to be so pleased to have stickers and buttons glued to his back when he awakes!

Silly Layla.

Today I put a movie in for Layla so I could finish cleaning the house (which I have no clue why I even bother, 2 seconds later toys are scattered all over the entire house). I clean the kitchen and when I come back into the living room, this is what I find! She makes me laugh so much! So I laughed at her and told her how funny she was (which she agrees to, by the way) and off I go in the other room to clean some more. 5 minutes later I look down to find a "monster" getting my legs with her hands and saying "RARRRRR"! Apparently socks on your hands makes you a monster! :)

Do, do Dora!

Layla only watches Dora occasionally because I cannot stand listening to that show. Every time it comes on Ed and I sing along to the intro song "do do do do do Dora, do do do do do Dora, Dora, Dora, Dora the explorer!" Anyway, my mom sent Layla a Dora stuffed animal for Christmas one year and Layla has just recently wanted to play with it (she is getting older and getting into dolls). So now every time Layla says Dora's name she goes "do, do Dora!" It is so funny to hear! "Where did do, do Dora go?" "Do, do Dora fall!"

Naked girl.

This morning while I was cleaning up the kitchen I needed to take the trash out. Well, Layla was naked on the couch watching a movie. Every time that I go take out the trash she likes to follow me down the stairs and outside. Today was no exception.
Me: "Layla, I'm going to take out the trash, I'll be right back."
Layla: "Layla come too!"
Me: "No, your naked!"
Layla gets off the couch and goes to open the door.
Me: "Fine, if you want to come then you HAVE to go put some clothes on!"
So then she leaves to her room where I assume that she is getting dressed. I walk down to the garbage cans and when I turn around to walk back to our building, I see a naked little girl running down the side walk with a huge smile on her face saying "I'm here, Mommy!"

My laugh for the night.

We bought Layla these princess band aids so now whenever she gets hurt or cut or falls she has to have a princess band aid on the boo boo. Anyway, tonight we were dancing to Hairspray (which she knows word for word) and she poked herself in the eye. She made a huge deal out of it and then said she wanted a band aid on it. Ed was all over that one! They went into the bathroom and got a band aid and came out like this!
I keep trying to take it off but it's been on for a good hour now and she still won't let me. I'm guessing I'll have to take it off when she is asleep tonight!

Palm Beach!

Today we went to an indoor/outdoor water park called Palm Beach. It is in Nurnberg, so about 45 minutes away. We had a blast! Layla really loves swimming and they had a special kiddie section we spent most of the day in. The food was really good there too, Layla and I shared a pizza and Ed got a hamburger and fries. Ed had so much fun with Layla in the wave pool. Layla would get on his back and they would go bouncing around every where. So, it was a good day and we'll probably go back again!

Poor baby.

Today while cleaning up Layla's bed room, I threw Layla's baby doll off the bed so I could make it. Layla heard baby's head thunk against the floor so she gasped and ran over to baby. She goes on to say "Awwww, baby! You ok? What happened?" while she is hugging and rocking baby. Then she says "Baby, want to go night night? Feel better!" and lays the baby down on a pillow. She is such a good little Mommy.

Swim day!

Today we went with Evan and Shell to the pool and had a great time. It was such a beautiful day outside, we didn't want to waste it by staying indoors. Layla had a great time and she even swam in the big pool and used her floaties for the first time (which she didn't like). Layla kept standing on the edge and she would go "1, 2, 3!" and jump in the water. It was so cute! We were there for a few hours so when we were getting ready to leave, Layla was not happy! She kept saying "I want to swim more!" over and over again. I told her we'll talk Daddy into taking us this weekend! ;)

Candy!

Layla's new favorite breakfast is Cookie Crisp cereal. She asks for it every morning and if we don't have it, well, let's just say we BETTER have it! Today Layla came over to me with one of the cookies on her spoon:
Layla: "Look, candy, Mama!"
Me: "No, Layla, that's not candy, it's cookie cereal."
Layla: "Nooooo! Candy IN cookie!"
Me: "Ohhhh, there's candy in the cookie?"
Layla: "Yes, Mama!"

Little missy is getting too smart! :)

I got silky!

Today I had to go get a shot because of the horrible migraines that I have been having. Well, Layla was in the room with me when the nurse gave me the shot and I showed Layla that shots don't hurt (even though on the inside I was crying). When we got home I immediately passed out, the shot made me very sleepy. So Layla comes up to me while I am sleeping and says "Mommy's boo boo hurt?" and puts her silky right in my face. Now, if you know anything about Layla you know that she is obsessed with this "silky" and doesn't let any one even touch it but her so she gave it to me because I didn't feel good. How sweet is my baby?

Then later when I woke up, this was our conversation -
Layla: "Mommy have a boo boo?"
Me: "Yes, Layla."
Layla: "What happened, Mommy?"
Me: "The doctor had to give me a shot!"
Layla: "Awww, feel better now?"
Me: "A little bit better."
Layla: "Want Layla to give it a kiss?"

She cracks me up!

I <3 you, feel better!

Last night I had a really, really bad migraine. It was centered on the top of my head and the pain shot all the way down to my neck, it was really odd. That along with numb feet and we were a little concerned about it. Ed was such a good husband and helped me with Layla and let me just lay on the couch. He finally put me to bed and thank goodness Layla decided to sleep until 9am today so I could get a little extra sleep. When I woke up Layla wanted me to lay in bed with her for a little bit. I go get the laptop and open it and out flies a note "I <3 you, feel better!" Aww, how sweet! So I go on with my morning and make Layla breakfast. I open the refrigerator to get some milk and out flies a note "I <3 you, feel better!" And finally, I open a drawer to get a spoon out and I spot another note in there as well, "I <3 you, feel better!" My husband is the best, he is so sweet. He always makes such an effort to make me smile, I love him so much!

eBay.

Okay, I have decided I am no longer to bid on anything on eBay. The other night I found an item that I absolutely had to have, I mean this was "the" item of the year for me! Anyway, I had been watching the item for a few days and debating my max bid and if it would hold up. The bid was at a whopping $4.99 when I came across it and still, even at 5 minutes remaining continued to sell for $4.99! How could I not bid on this must have item? I had to, there was no question about it. 3 minutes left came around the corner and I bid $5.00 which then eBay let me know I was immediately out bid. So I get the nerve to bid again, okay, I'll go with $6.00. Not even a second later I was notified I had been out bid once again. The auction was down to 1 minute and I decided that my ultimate max bid would be $7.50. I pushed the confirm button and I was finally the highest bidder! I then proceeded to refresh the page every 2 seconds and every time I hit that refresh button my heart would sink thinking I would be out bid. I thought I was going to have an anxiety attack because I wanted this item so bad and thought some one else, some one who didn't deserve it, was going to win. 13 seconds comes around and my palms are sweating and I am on pins and needles waiting for the outcome. One last hit of the refresh button and it was confirmed. I had WON the item! I was so happy I proceeded to get out of my chair and dance around the room telling Ed about my excitement. After biting off all of my nails and about passing out from the anxiety, I have decided that eBay will be the death of me if I continue to bid on things. This will be my last auction!
And what is this mystery item that I had to have, you ask? Well, I am the proud new owner of...

Gymboree Princess Snow Drop tights in size 2T! Guess who they're for?

Ready or not, here I come.

Layla and I were playing hide and seek today. We always hide and play around but we've never actually played the game before (with counting and all of that). Anyway, I told Layla to go hide and I would count to 10 and then come find her. I stood in the living room, covered my eyes, counted to 10 and then said "ready or not, here I come!" I heard excited screams coming from the laundry room.
Opening and shutting a door so I don't find her right away.
Me: "Are you in here?"
Layla: "NOOOOO!"
I opened and shut the bathroom door, once again so I wouldn't find her right away.
Me: "How about in here?"
Layla: "NOOOOO!"
I finally get to the laundry room and this is what I find!

"I can't!"

Me: "Layla, eat your fish."
Layla: "I can't!"

Me: "Layla, clean your room."
Layla: "I can't!"

Me: " Layla, go put clothes on."
Layla: "I can't!"

I hope this new phrase passes quickly!

Volksfest Day 2.

Well we decided to go back to Volksfest on Saturday, we had a lot of fun, again. We pretty much did that same things we did on Friday but because we were out so late on Friday night Layla was a little grumpy. She ended up having fun once we saw our friends and their kids. We rode some rides, played some games, ate great food, and drank some German beer! :)

Saturday, August 2, 2008

Volksfest was so much fun!

So once a year (in August) they have this festival called the Volksfest. I wasn't even too excited about it since we are used to so many German festivals since living in Mainz but we went last night and I was SO impressed. It is huge and had so much to do. It really reminded me of the Date Festival and made me a little sad because I missed it. It was very Americanized. We had a great time though and we're going to try to go back again this weekend. Layla really surprised me too! She didn't even want to go, when we were on the bus going there she told me she wanted to go home. Once we got there we bought her mini doughnuts and I told her whatever she wanted to just tell us and we'd get it for her (I know, we're raising her real good, right? LOL) so once we did that she was happy. Our first stop was this Flinstone car ride and of course I had to ride it with her, but she loved it. After it was over she held up 1 finger and said "one more time!" LOL! After that we walked around more and got her face painted. I was so surprised she let the lady paint her face, I thought for sure she would flip out. She wanted the butterfly on her face so that is what she got. Then she wanted to "jump" so she went up and down the bouncy slide a million times. I was actually surprised about that too, she always has to have us go with her but she had a blast. We played some games (she loved the one where you fish for ducks! She kept quacking when we would catch one.) and rode a couple more rides. Our friends ended up showing up too so Ed and Matt ended up drinking the rest of the night away while Shell and I watched the sleeping children. Anyway, I am so glad we tried it out and ended up going. I don't think we could have had a better time. It was awesome!
